Located next to Arbroath’s picturesque harbour, Signal Tower Museum is housed within the original shore station for the Bell Rock Lighthouse. The building was constructed in 1813 and, until 1955, served as living quarters for the light keepers and their families.
Two hundred years after engineer Robert Stevenson oversaw construction, the Bell Rock Lighthouse still stands as Britain’s oldest surviving rock lighthouse. Within the Signal Tower Museum, models, multimedia displays and historic objects help visitors explore the dangers of the sea. Stories of Arbroath’s fishing and maritime industries are interwoven with tales of Arbroath Smokies and the pirate Ralph the Rover.
